Mobile Marketing: Application Promotion Explored
In an earlier post I wrote about how video production can be the best tool in your marketing bag of tricks. A demo video helps people quickly see what your mobile video game or app is all about, and can even help show your mobile app in the best light possible.
Because the mobile app and video game market is changing so fast, there’s a lot to learn and many companies struggle with where to begin. So we can present you with the most helpful information, please take this quick poll; what are your biggest mobile application development process questions?
We’ll be revisiting this topic again so now is your chance to weigh in….
Mobile marketing is a tricky business, in a way, the best thing you can do is make a great app. But really, that’s not enough, you need to get it in front of enough people so that they play and like your game, tell a friend or recommend it online.
Our main goal at Digital Accomplice is to help our clients navigate the digital media world and help them execute their mobile application and digital video marketing strategies, as cost effectively and as easily as possible. What we’ve learned is that whether your app strategy is ‘freemium’, paid, ad-supported, free to play or some other new business model, you’re going to face an increasingly crowded marketplace. Here are a few questions we recommend asking yourself while creating your application promotion strategy:
- Who is my target audience, not just for the game but to get the word out?
- What makes my application truly unique and how can I present that in the best possible light?
- What might be the best publishing strategy and what happens if we’re wrong?
- What apps are similar to mine and what seems to have worked for them?
- Who do I know if the media, journalism and blog communities who might be willing to cover my mobile app.
Given a multitude of options, how and why would anyone choose to even look at my app in the first place?
These are just a few basic questions to start you thinking in the right direction. Some of these are screamingly obvious but I’ve been surprised at many apps that don’t seem like they’ve had the questions answered before they’ve been launched.
We’d love to hear from you, what questions or insight do you have about application promotion and marketing?
(Please note, we are not looking for developers or other vendors so please donât solicit, this forum is for discussion. )
