Wall Street is in need of a little Austerity, at least that’s what the marketing company responsible for launching “Austerity” wine thinks! Benson Marketing Group hired Digital Accomplice to help produce a publicity stunt viral video to help build some buzz around Cecchetti Wine Company’s new wine.  The video below was to accompany a campaign of advertisements in mass media and trade publications, press outreach and other more traditional marketing methods. The addition of a web video to help build buzz is a new option that has big potential that is just now starting to be tapped.

Publicity video can work great when launching a product, announcing an event or new initiative. It gives the audience and your industry something to talk about, something to share. By taking advantage of what works in online video, this concept will surely catch a little buzz in your industry. Because video is so easily shared in email, text and social media, the possibilities are largely limited only by the creative concept of what the video is. The best results will tap into the best practices for any online video: High engagement, buzz-worthiness of creative/execution, something clever/fun/amazing, actually- you probably know reflexively now what types of stuff do well online, just think about the last 10 videos you watched online and ask yourself what they had in common!

I think this type of fun publicity video content can be used effectively by just about any company. By now I’ve seen great content online by law firms, razor companies, software companies, just about anyone who is willing to give it the good old college try. Don’t be afraid to try something new, especially with a social media focused video. If you keep the concepts simple, the videos short and maximize the value to the audience, your video has a better chance of getting watched, enjoyed and shared.

If you’re ready to get started, begin by looking at examples of what the competition is doing and even look at other sectors, maybe the big opportunity for publicity video is that your peers aren’t doing anything buzz-worthy yet! The key really is in: (1) the creative concept and (2) the execution of that plan at a professional quality level.
