Video Content Marketing: Now Playing!

Video Content Marketing has been growing fast and I’m convinced that 2013 will be the year it goes mainstream. Brightcove, a video hosting platform just released this data-rich infographic which helps explain the state of video for content marketing.

*In the post I wanted to boil down what you need to know about video content marketing today: The story goes like this: *

Just as it took websites and social media some time to become essential marketing tools, video is poised to do the same.  “But Why?” you ask, well it’s because…

There are two things that happened. One: Search happened. The way that your customers buy has changed. People now research heavily online before they buy. They’re now typically very knowledgeable about what they want before they are ready to engage with your company. Because of this new buying behavior, it behooves your brand to begin a relationship with your customer early in the sales process. The best way to do this seems to be to give them what they want. Give them the info that can inform their decision of what, how and when to buy –* establish trust.*

The second thing that happened is Video. You Tube happened, phones with video cameras happened, video is the perfect short and easy-to-consume format for mobile, social media sharing of video content exploded: all this adds up to one indisputable reality: People like video, they watch a ton of it (for every possible reason) and they now expect it. In other words, if you don’t have video, you aren’t a part of their life and their world when they are spending time consuming this content. It’s like not having a website when everyone spends all this time online.

Content marketing now seems to be the accepted best way to get in front of your audience online. Nobody likes interuptive advertising and we have become experts at avoiding and ignoring it. By creating video content that your audience actually seeks out, you can expect to connect with, engage and nurture a relationship with your customer. It’s that trust that, if managed properly, will tend to lead them down your sales funnel towards a sale. I’m biased but I’ll give you a prediction: If you don’t plan on producing video for content marketing, 2013 will be the year that your competition does.
